Nobody Knows

Sunday, October 8th, 2006

Dare Mo Shiranai or Nobody Knows in English is one of those movies you dont want to miss. Right at the beginning of the movie, it’s stated that the movie is purely fictional. As fictional as it might sound, but it is no stranger to most Japanese because the movie is actually based on a true story that happened in Tokyo back in 1988, also known as “The Affair of the Four Abandoned Children of Nishi-Sugamo”.

I say this was an cheerful movie and yet quite depressing. As a critic quotes “Nobody Knows… will chill you, further proof that the ability to procreate does not automatically qualify you to be a parent.”

This movie truly reminds you of your childhood. Seeing the children play and their innocent gestures can easily transport you back to your childhood. Akira the main character is only 10 year old has done a great job, and he already won the Best Actor at the Cannes film festival, I can’t find any reason why not to watch it. I’m glad that, sooner or later I got my hands on it. My final thoughts, Get the DVD!
