I did it, finally!
Monday, August 14th, 2006On the Sunday 13th of August 2006 I completed my first official run of any kind The city 2 surf. An annual event with 63,000 participated this year, it was an experience of a life time. I did run for 11kms but walked about 3kms especially when it was the steep climb at the Heartbreak hill. The winner’s time was 40 min and mine was 110min.
It is a major city event-a source of civic pride–and probably one of the most beautiful courses in the world, taking in views of the harbor, ocean, city, and the most affluent suburbs in Sydney. The course conforms to the south shore of the harbor and passes beaches-those of Rushcutters Bay, Double Bay, and Rose Bay–and up onto headlands three times, incorporating lots of hills, including Heartbreak Hill. Stories circulate that heart attacks often occur on this hill, which lasts for about three kilometers and comes at the halfway point of the race.
There was great music along the way and cheerers drinking beer and having a great view of the race… buggers. After finishing the race I felt proud of myself because an year back I thought it would never happen in my life.
