We the people?
Monday, February 27th, 2006The world is becoming more globalized, there is no doubt about that. While that sounds promising, the current form of globalization, neoliberalism, free trade and open markets are coming under much criticism. The interests of powerful nations and corporations are shaping the terms of world trade. In India, they are shaping and affecting the ability of elected leaders to make decisions in the interests of their people. In some nations they are promoting narrow political discourse and even supporting dictatorships and the “stability” that it brings them. This is to the detriment of most people in the world, while increasingly fewer people in proportion are prospering. In India things ar turning from sick to totally unacceptable. While the educated and the rich are benefiting from India’s success due to open markets, the poor illiterate and the average farmer is starving to death. Poor and homeless kids roam Indian streets begging and working to just live for the day. We keep pride in a nation where kids are exploited and eat stuff from garbage? Please…..
Who cares? has become an attitude of the current Indian who earns well. If left unnoticed the rich and the poor divide may create a unhealthy atmosphere and finally backfire. Development is not restricted to cities it should also include the majority. The majority in India are the people in villages . The foundation of India was its rural economy. The Indian farmer was the one who laid the foundation. Today he is being neglected and scared away from his share of India’s current prosperity. If you are a proud Indian then you wouldnt let it happen. Every penny you earn bears a responsibility to the farmer who infact feeds you. Make India a place where opportunity and equality form a paradise, which can be shared among all its peoples. The major segment of Indian population today are its youth if it acts young on this problem we can set an example for generations follow. The pictue in the post made me write this. Sorry if its heavy but the picture nearly made me loose my nerve. God Bless.
