Best Thing to lose

Tuesday, June 20th, 2006

After losing about a 50 kilos, I’ve become extremely health concious. Here are some tips which I feel might help you if you are thinking of the same. To start with, you have to Motivate your self. Here is what I did, I went public, told everyone I know that I’m going to lose weight. I was now accountable for my actions and people will definitely ask me how I was going so that will give you a good start. Set a Goal Weight and get used to getting on to the scale. Make sure your goal is realistic, Simple the higher you set it the sooner you give up. Get yourself a good scale and use it on a hard surface and weigh your self on a certain time of the day at regular intervals, I did it 3pm every Saturday. So now every week you see your progress if you lose 1kg in the first week you’ll be like wow! That is enough to keep you inspired for another week. Change your eating style completely, become a low-carber I mean eat very little carbs and loads of protien. This is what I’m a low-carber and a protien muncher. If you are think quitting on fats can help you lose weight think again, do you remember the term essential fatty acids from your biology class in school? Keep good fats like Omegas 3, 6, and 9 as part of your diet.

Below was a typical diet I followed:
I stopped eating sugar completely (includes soft drinks)

One coffee + a whole meal sandwich (breakfast)
Salad for lunch (The more leafy the best)
Weight watchers (4 point meals dinner) + Fat free yoghurt
Apples / Oat meal bars between meals.
Drank lot of water. (6 lts a minimum)
Centrum plus (vitamin supplement)

The above diet showed results in first week lost 2 kilos. I was so impressed and went on. I could measure myself just by doing yoga every week. I found I was getting better. I could stretch better and had less cramps.

Eat lot of snacks (healthy one’s, no potato chips or french fries) between your main meals (Breakfast, Lunch Dinner). Small high fiber snacks make sure you dont go starving and gets rid of the constipation which you are likely to get because of reduced eating. If you starve yourself then next time you eat you’ll just eat more than you need and ruin your hardwork so far. When I reached 105kilos from 120kilos, I started going to gym to do cardio for about an hour every day. My weight loss every week just kept me going and kept me inspired.

Below was a chart I made to track weight loss:

Weight loss Chart

The simple logic to an efficient weight loss is watch what you eat, and expend more energy than you consume, meaning more exercise. And start reading those labels I know its boring but that is a very good practice. Most of us may glance at a nutrition label on a package, but actually understanding what all the percentages and categories mean is another story. Here is a surprisngly handy guide to box labels from your pals at the FDA.

Nutrition Label

Using a standard label as a guide, the site takes you through all the key facts and figures, explains the nuances of %DV (daily value), shows you how to compare two boxes to see which product is healthier. The only downside is, once you figure out what you’re actually eating, it might not taste as good. So there I wrap my post on weight loss and hope it helps any one of my reader. I may add more tips to this post so it can turn into a book. Just kidding. Happy losing.

P.S. My Waist size was 42 now 32 :)
