“If I had no sense of humor,
I would long ago have committed suicide.” - Gandhi

Borat and The Last year Oscar winner Crash have lot of similarities if I may. Both of them achieve the same goal of exposing the American society in its most extreme form. For example the college frat boys in the film Borat whose prejudices about women and minorities are exposed under the veil of humor.

The only difference I see between these two movies is that Crash was scripted and portrayed stereotypes but Borat cleverly exploits the side of America which lazily rests on stereotypes and exposes ignorance and xenophobia of American society. I think the main aim of the film is simply to see what happens, under the pressure of Borat’s bizarre, unpredictable, provocative presence.

I feel the real damage occurred not to the Americans but to Kazakhstan whose image was damaged by the way Cohen portrayed the Central Asian Nation, but again its forgivable as its a deliberate comic Mockumentary. All of this said, I found Borat to be as shockingly funny as any film I’ve seen in years.
